A. Youtube would probably be your best bet. You probably won't be able to see the entire thing but most of the musical numbers should be on there. Just search them and they'll pop up. I know for sure that there are at least 6 on there. Good luck! Lindsay Can I sing?

A. I had this happen to me once with black DMC, too. I tried washing it myself in cold water and ended up with a grey mess on my aida. I would take it to the cleaners first. They couldn't help me since I'd already washed it and set in the bleed. I now pretreat all my dark DMC threads(black, dark blues and reds) by soaking in cold water with vinegar and salt and drying them before I use them.

Is there any way to follow a 28ct cross stitch on 14ct aida without doubling the size?
Q. I bought a cross stitch kit which turned out to come with 28ct aida. I'm finding it impossible to do. Is there anyway to follow the chart on 14ct aida or even 18ct without making the image end up huge? It is a home sweet home design which I want to frame so doubling the size on 14ct would ruin it :(

A. Aida is a extremely proud character. I would say that that pride characterizes her. However, under that pride is an insecurity as she is constantly wondering if she could take up the mantle as the leader of her people. After meeting Radames, she becomes very emotionally torn within between her love for him and her duty to the people, not to mention her friendship with Amneris. I would like to put emphasis on pride here. It's a good word as it describes her very well both for her personality and for her physical character. A few tips: Listen to her songs from the musical. See if you can imagine her through her words and emotions conveyed through the songs. A couple theatre techniques I would use: determine what kind of animal she is similar… [cont.]

How to remove a stain on Aida fabric?
Q. I'm currently working on a cross stitch design on Aida fabric. The picture is nearly finished and I've noticed a stain on the fabric right next to the stitches. I want to frame the picture and the stain would be seen through the glass as it's so close to the picture. Could anyone suggest a way to remove the stain that wont damage the stitches or the Aida fabric itself? Unfortunately I have no idea what sort of stain it is! It appeared from nowhere!

A. Do you wash your pieces when you are finished with them? I usually wash mine before framing, and any oils or other assorted marks left by stuff on my fingers usually comes right out. Wash it in cold or warm water (to avoid too much shrinkage) with a gentle detergent and it should come right out. If the stain persists, you can go to your local craft shop and find a suitable stain remover. Good luck!

Does the lead role of Aida necessarily have to be black?
Q. My friend claims the role of Aida has to be black because no other race can sing like she sings. What are your thoughts on this?
Asked by Jessi - Mon Mar 22 16:45:31 2010 - Theater & Acting - 3 Answers - Comments

A. The music and the vocal quality that the role requires has nothing to do with the actress's race. The reason why Aida should preferably be played by a black actress is because she is Egyptian, and looks more realistic on stage because make-up can only do so much. A black actress could very well have the voice to play Christine Daae, (like Audra Mc Donald) but she won't always be cast because Christine is Swedish...again, the visuals are not very believable. So, can a white actress play Aida if she has the pipes? Of course. Still, it all depends on the particular production. If the director chooses to cast an Asian as Aida, it's their vision. :o)

Asked by Brandon C - Mon Jun 30 13:27:54 2008 - Theater & Acting - 1 Answers - Comments

A. It is not available unless you find someone with a bootleg copy. As that is illegal, I'm not sure how you could get a copy. Some bootleg sites do offer to "trade" copies of their bootlegs, but as you have nothing to trade I don't know what to tell you there. Also, trading is still illegal, so you must use your own judgement there. If you live in or near New York you can go to Lincoln Center (The Lincoln Center Library). They house an archive of recorded Broadway shows. If I remember correctly, there is also a limit on how many times one can watch the videos in a given period and you have to have a valid reason to see it (ie theatre student). This is so people will not steal ideas or designs from any productions they see. Here is… [cont.]

How can I get a stain out of aida cloth?
Q. I just finished a cross stick for a Christmas present, and when I started framing, I noticed a stain near the bottom (could possibly coffee or cola) The cloth is beige. Any suggestions as to what I could try to remove the stain without ruing the picture?
Asked by tracy - Tue Nov 25 19:19:00 2008 - Hobbies & Crafts - 4 Answers - Comments

A. I would try a dab of vinegar first and if that doesn't work then a trick that I have used on many occasions, is I dip a cotton tip swab in bleach and just lightly dab the mark without soaking it. Usually the whole stain disappears or a very faint mark remains that is hardly noticeable. Do it carefully though to avoid touching your thread work. You could also try Tide To Go or one of many bleach and spot remover sticks on the market now. They are available at grocery stores and Walmart.

My embroidery hoop is leaving a circle imprint on my aida fabric?
Q. this is my first cross-stitch project and i was doing it without a hoop but didnt like how my left hand made the left side of the fabric flimsy from holding it so much. So i got a hoop but now, whenever i take it off, there is a circle imprint on my aida fabric. i might stop using the hoop due to this. How can i get rid of the imprint? thanks.
Asked by Lauren - Wed Jul 20 10:17:57 2011 - Hobbies & Crafts - 2 Answers - Comments

A. as soon as you are done stitching, even if you think you will get back to it later that day, take the hoop off. it only takes a few seconds to put off and on. that will help. each time you put it back on, put it on in a slightly different position, not around same ring imprint. when you are completely done with project, iron it. fold an old towel on ironing board, put project upside down on towel to iron. try first without steam, as steam loosens the fibers and may distort the shape of fabric and picture. too much steam may also make the colors run, especially red family. happy stitching

Would it matter if I followed a 28 count cross stitch on 14 count aida?
Q. I've recently bought a cross stitch kit and had no idea it came with 28hpi fabric. It is literally a nightmare for me. Would it make any difference to the appearance if I followed it on 14 count aida? I know it will end up bigger, but would the image still end up as good?
Asked by AmyP - Tue Nov 2 19:48:10 2010 - Hobbies & Crafts - 3 Answers - Comments

A. Typically, even weave fabrics are worked "over two", so you're actually making 14 cross stitches per linear inch, just as you are with 14 ct aida.

Asked by crimson_fixture - Thu Apr 15 15:59:56 2010 - Theater & Acting - 1 Answers - Comments

A. Well, Aida the musical is a lot more comedic, first off. Second, The singing style is different. While the songs in the musical are sometimes faster, the opera's songs are slower. In the musical, a lot of dancing takes place. Hope that helps.
